The Truman ShowTruman (as a child):   "I'd like to be an explorer like the great Magellan."

Teacher:  "Oh, you're too late, there really is nothing left to explore!"

On December 4th, Saint Saviour High School had their third Radius meeting.  Wanting to propose a movie that clearly expresses the desire of the human heart, they decided to show "The Truman Show."

Truman, the title character, is the unwitting star of a huge reality show.  All of his life has been planned, programmed, and manipulated by the creator of the program, Christof.  Nothing happens to Truman that Cristof does not carefully control from his production studio, any possibility that Truman might discover the truth about his life is carefully re-written to keep Truman in the dark about the true nature of life.  Despite this, nothing can stop Truman from looking for a girl, who he only met once, but who was the only person to be truly sincere with him.  Through this simple encounter with this woman all of Truman's desires are awakened.

This is exactly the point of Radius: the centrality of the heart, our desire, in our lives.

After viewing "The Truman Show," the Radius club opened a discussion with those in attendance. Several key points were made by the girls. One noted that while Truman was not free, freedom in a situation lies in the meaning of the situation. Furthermore, this meaning, consequently, must be great. Perhaps the most important idea and experience, and most readily recognized, was that people always desire something more, something greater. And, in fact, this is exactly the point of "The Truman Show." This is exactly the point of Radius.
